About the information here

Last updated 20 August 2026

Release dates and title details change frequently. Much of this information is sourced from TMDB and verified where possible, but PDH can't guarantee accuracy — treat a date here as a good guide rather than a promise, and check the broadcaster or streamer for the final word.

Why dates move

In the film industry a date can change at any time — projects are delayed, moved or quietly shelved for all sorts of reasons. A period drama's date can change several times before it airs, and often differs by country. Where a date is a premiere or a limited opening rather than a general release, the site says so.

What I check, and what I don't

Every title here has been hand-picked — by me, or recommended by another period drama fan. This is a collection I've been building for over a decade, so the odd title may have slipped through that doesn't belong. When I find one, it goes.

I work through each title by hand and tag it with my own eras and centuries, with plenty more tags to come. Posters, artwork and the main film details come straight from TMDB, which means they can change without me knowing — and they aren't mine to correct. The eras and tags are.

Eras, tags and moods are judgement calls

PDH's tags are here to help you find dramas set in your favourite period in history, or built around a particular historical event or a book you love. They are guides rather than rulings: each one has either been researched as carefully as I can manage and tagged by me, or added by a reader. The site is open to everyone at the moment, so anyone can tag and help build this database.

Once accounts arrive, tagging becomes account holders only, with a tier system — paid account holders will have full rein to add, correct and refine these themselves — because a database of this kind gets better the more people are allowed to argue with it.

All of it is built for the period drama community: one place to search by era, mood or theme and actually find something to watch. So treat the tags as signposts rather than rulings. If you think something is tagged wrongly, say so — you may well be right, and disagreements about where a title belongs are half the fun of a site like this.
